I spend a lot of time walking along Lake Michigan, noticing how the surface changes—lines in the sand, waves moving in and out, and the marks left behind as the water recedes. Those observations show up here. The surface is built in layers using Lake Michigan beach sand in the glaze. The blues shift across the form in a way that reflects the movement of the water. The lip of the handmade mug is made with hand-rolled coils that were flattened. It reminds me of the lines you see in the sand or the edges of small waves as they come in. The interior and lip are finished in a soft blue glaze. The handle is textured and shaped to feel comfortable and secure in your hand. This is a mug made for everyday use.
